Otoplasty is the procedure for reshaping the pinna or the outer portion of the ear. Its goal is to correct any irregularities in appearance stemming from a birth defect or an accident. You can also undergo the procedure if you feel insecure about having prominent ears.
During the procedure, local anesthesia is applied before making an incision behind the ear. The doctor may remove some cartilages and apply stitches to reduce the size of the pinna. The procedure usually lasts for an hour or two.
